Upstate Schools Win! GEA ENDED!

Few issues have been more important to Senator Ranzenhofer than ending the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA).  The GEA was funding gimmick implemented by Senate Democrats in 2009 which took billions of dollars from schools and had a disproportionate negative impact on upstate rural and suburban school districts.

Since its implementation, Mike has worked to reduce and reverse its impact.  Due to Mike’s close relationship with school districts in the region, he was one of the first legislators to speak out against the GEA and was a critical leader on the Budget Education Committee advocating to eliminate the GEA.

In addition to eliminating the GEA, Mike restored regional funding for Western New York School districts.  As a result, local schools saw funding restorations that prevented drastic property tax increases.
